PAWS For Reflection 06/13/2016

June is the American Humane Association’s Adopt-A-Cat month, and PAWS Place Adoption Center can certainly help you to celebrate this occasion. Remember earlier this year when we talked about the importance of spaying and neutering your companion animals?  Then, lately, everyone in animal rescue and sheltering has been talking about “kitten season”.  Well, it has certainly arrived.

PAWS has accepted a number of kittens, of all flavors and colors, that will be ready to move into their new forever homes in the next several weeks.

We also have a wide array of mature, beautiful, mellow, and at times hilarious, adult cats ready to purr your troubles away!

Did you know that stroking a cat lowers blood pressure? Increases your sense of well-being?  Helps with loneliness and provides amusement?  All true.  So, when the stresses of the world threaten to overwhelm you, help can be just a cat-in-the-lap or kitten-on-the-head away.

Stop by, or search at pawspaws.org for your very own furry therapist. They are all spayed or neutered, microchipped, dewormed, up-to-date on their vaccinations, and ready to bring joy to your life.

Maybe two?  PAWS has several sibling groups that will do well together and will provide twice the smiles and purr therapy you need.

You can go to http://www.americanhumane.org for more information about this month’s designation and some tips for preparation if you plan to adopt a cat.  We hope you do!

For all of you who have received our newsletter, you are already reminded that our annual pork butt sale is very soon.  Pick up dates this year will be Wed. thru Fri, June 29, 30, and July 1 at PAWS Place.  Ready for your long weekend, you will have 7-8 lbs. of pulled pork, and only $35 again this year.

PAWS volunteers will be contacting our yearly purchasers, but you can also contact any board member, call or stop by PAWS Place or our 2nd Chance Resale to confirm or place your order.

Speaking of our store, Karee has put summer clothing on super-sale for this week.  All summer tops are $1 each and women’s capris are $2.  WOW!  And, you can visit with our precious Mona Lisa.  Shopping doesn'’t get much better than this!

Meanwhile, if you see a companion animal in need, in trouble, or suffering, please, please call someone before it’s too late for them.  Call your local animal control office, the police, the Sheriff’s Dept., and let us know, too.  It IS your business if an innocent being who cannot speak for himself needs your help!

PAWS For Reflection 06/06/2016

We are having so much fun with making these short videos with our babies for posting on Facebook.  So, when you visit PAWS page, be sure to “like”, then share, these little snippets of our babies available for adoption. It most certainly helps, along with all the other internet outlets we use, to find wonderful, forever homes for the dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens we love and care for.

Vera Bradley and Dooney & Bourke handbags, Clarks and Birkenstock shoes and sandals, Tommy Hilfiger sportswear.  PAWS 2nd Chance Resale has them all ready for summer shopping.  Sales on summer tops, baskets, and select furniture items continues.  Come on in.

The lovely Annabelle Street Festival is Saturday, June 11, and we have been invited to be a part of the festivities.  We’ll be at the Anna Arts Center with pups and/or dogs to visit, our shirts for sale, and some fun stuff for you.

Next up will be the Dawg Daze Super Shelter Spectacular at Alto Vineyards June 26th.  We, along with many of our old friends from other rescues and shelters will be there to celebrate DOG, and kitties, too.  We look forward to visiting with friends and supporters, and possibly hooking up with some new homes for our babies.

Oops!  Almost forgot to mention that we sent another twenty-seven of our darlings home in May.  That makes 135 so far this year.  We are so pleased and proud of the teamwork that makes this happen, and we couldn’t be happier for those babies and their new families.

And more arrive nearly every day.  We do this for them and because you support us in our work.  We are thankful every day for your help, and the babies send you kitten kisses and puppy-plause for your generosity.

Have you been watching our website?  Have you seen the absolutely adorable puppies available for adoption?  Take look, they will just take your breath away!  They are being adopted in a hurry, so don’t wait too long to get your application in.

As they move on to their forever homes, it makes room for the next group of unwanted puppies or dogs, and the next, and the next.  If you are ready and responsible and your heart is missing this joy, come see us.

Meanwhile, to try to help keep the shelter supported, we also take great pride in PAWS 2nd Chance Resale, where everything you can think of is donated for resale.  We need to continue to grow the sales at the store, and you can help by shopping with us, of course, but also sharing your positive experience with your friends, family, and coworkers and passing the word along on social media.

We try to keep pictures of new items available on our Facebook page, so share those, too.  And right now, our spring sale is happening.  Not only are winter tops on sale for $1 each, now we’ve reduced summer women’s tops to $2 and men’s polo shirts to $1!

During May days, all of the formal dresses and gowns are going for $10 each, and ladies, for a limited time, there is 50% off select purses!!

Lots of reasons to come visit with us, we enjoy your company, and it can only move us forward toward our dream of our new facility, and, one day, enough homes for them all!

Whoa!  Have you seen our little video on Facebook of the black lab pups playing?  Too, too cute.  And, while you’re there, take a look at some of the gorgeous flowers and baskets available for our Spring plant sale at PAWS Place.

Busy, busy.  Great start to this year with 108 dog, cat, puppy, and kitten adoptions just through April.  Remember, every one that leaves makes a space for another sweet baby in need.  We’ve also been working on the summer newsletter, due out around June 1st, with lots of information and some thoughtful discussion.

Doggie bathrooms in airports??  It seems these have been installed in a number of airports across the U.S.  Pet relief facilities are expected to be installed in all the major airports by August, per a recent federal regulation.  Love it!

What a long way we have come as a nation, over the past 20 years, in recognizing the importance of companion animals in all our lives.  Marketing gurus and businesses have known and utilized this devotion to sell their products for many years.  Governmental entities are learning, even politicians are beginning to get it.

Elephants no more in Ringling Bros. shows, no more orca shows at Sea World, country after country outlawing the use of wild animals for our entertainment.  Step by step we are re-learning to respect and treasure the precious ones who cannot defend or speak for themselves.

We continue our work.  We know what we must do to save more lives.  We need, as always, your help to do it.  Support us in your own way.  There is no donation or gift or thought and expression of your caring that goes unnoticed or unappreciated.  We’ll keep on as long as you do.

PAWS For Reflection 4/18/2016

Remember back in February when we were urging you to spay or neuter your companion animals and help others do the same?  We focus on February because it seems to be the peak breeding season for our canine and feline friends.  Gestation is 8 weeks, so here we are.

The calls and the influx of unwanted puppies and kittens has already begun.  We, and every other shelter and animal control facility and rescue will be overwhelmed for the next several weeks.

Yes, there will be delight at their antics and play.  Yes, there will be intoxicating puppy breath and the warm, sweet fragrance of the kittens.  And yeah, there will be kisses and snuggling and the joy of saving a life.

But there will also be bottle feeding every two hours for the ones not yet weaned, there will be the frantic trips to the vet to try to diagnose and treat the many ailments they are prone to at this age.  There will be a great deal of cleaning.  And there will be tears and intense heartache for those we cannot save.

Then we’ll be angry again.  Angry because this kind of waste and loss of life is needless and absolutely preventable.  Angry because we endure this heartache instead of the people who have failed to live up to the responsibility of spaying and neutering their companion animals.

But then we will get to select their new families and see them bring great joy to them in their forever homes.  And then we will be proud and joyful, too.

Then, more will come.  Such is the world of animal rescue and sheltering.  The need is relentless, the work is endless, the rewards are inspiring, and our gratitude to all of you who make it possible by your support is heartfelt.

Keep an eye out for our babies as they become available for adoption on Petfinder.com, AdoptAPet.com, or our website.  Then come meet your new BFF.

Plant sale very soon now, and looking forward a bit, our annual Fourth of July pork butt sale will be June 29 & 30 & July 1.

PAWS 2nd Chance Resale has a number of beautiful dresses and gowns just perfect for the upcoming spring formal events.  Some have never even been worn and are available at a fraction of the cost of dresses in boutiques.

And, of course, winter clothing is on sale, some for as little as $1 each.  You’ll enjoy your visit to the store, and will always find a bargain.
