PAWS . . . for Reflection
an article by Pets Are Worth Saving, Inc.
New year, let us introduce ourselves again to those of you who may not know us or are just now receiving the Pub. We are Pets Are Worth Saving, Inc., a not-for-profit, 501(c)3 animal welfare organization that was incorporated in 1994, making this the 21st year of our work. We rescue and rehome unwanted and homeless, sometimes neglected and abused, dogs, cats, puppies, kittens, and, occasionally, horses. We have been blessed by the support of many, many of you for these many years. Without that support, we would be unable to continue our lifesaving work, because we are 100% funded by donations and our various fundraising efforts.
We were most fortunate to be able to purchase a small building on a main thoroughfare in Anna, and create our own no-kill facility, PAWS Place Adoption Center, which was licensed and opened in 2001. Since that time, we have taken in and rehomed close to 5,000 dogs, cats, puppies, kittens, a number of horses, along with several rabbits. We actively support adoption from shelters, humane treatment for all living creatures, and spaying and neutering companion animals as the only truly acceptable means to manage pet overpopulation.
In November, 2013, PAWS was able to realize a long-standing goal by opening a resale store also in a prominent, high visibility part of Anna. Our store is PAWS 2nd Chance Resale and we have been overwhelmed by both the quality and quantity of donations to the store. You can visit our Facebook page to get an idea of the variety of items available for sale at our store. Nearly everything you can imagine has come through the store for sale. We hope that PAWS 2nd Chance Resale will become a viable funding source for our continued efforts to save lives. If the first year is any indication, we are well on our way, thanks to you!
We present our world to you each week, keeping you apprised of issues of concern regarding companion animals, our upcoming events, our plans, our joys and our heartaches. We hope you will come see us at our adoption center or the store, we hope you like what you see, and we hope you will join our ever-growing group of supporters.
Meanwhile, if you see a companion animal in need, in trouble, or suffering, please, please call someone before it’s too late for them. Call your local animal control office, the police, the Sheriff’s Dept., and let us know, too. It IS your business if an innocent being who cannot speak for himself needs your help!
Call or write to us at 139 E. Vienna St., Anna, IL, 62906; ph: 618-833-DOGS (3647); pawspaws.org. Keep PAWS in mind!
