PAWS For Reflection 02/01/2016

PAWS . . . for Reflection an article by Pets Are Worth Saving, Inc. We need to remind you of our current raffle. We have a YETI 20 qt. softside cooler donated by a very generous supporter. Dads, husbands, brothers, grandpas, your best pal, all the guys will love this one. Tickets are for a donation of $1 each or 6 for $5, and the drawing will be at our annual Good Friday Fish Fry March 25, 2016. You can see this great cooler at PAWS 2nd Chance Resale.

And don’t forget to mark your calendars for the fish fry, either. That is always a great evening of great food, great fun, and great friends. We enjoy seeing our local friends and supporters and having a chance to personally thank them for their help.

During February, let’s all save lives by spaying and neutering our dogs and cats to prevent hundreds and hundreds of unwanted puppies and kittens, right here in Southern Illinois, from being killed, abandoned, and even thrown in the trash. It’s up to all of us to put a stop to this needless and preventable misery and death for these most innocent of creatures.

Many thanks to the Kroger shoppers who have chosen PAWS to receive community rewards from the Kroger Company. The more supporters that designate PAWS as their charity choice, the more Kroger will donate, at no additional cost to shoppers. You already have your Kroger shopper card, so all that’s necessary is to log in to www.Kroger.com/communityrewards, and use the PAWS ID #10673. The program applies at any Kroger, not just in Anna.

Meanwhile, if you see a companion animal in need, in trouble, or suffering, please, please call someone before it’s too late for them. Call your local animal control office, the police, the Sheriff’s Dept., and let us know, too. It IS your business if an innocent being who cannot speak for himself needs your help!

Spay/Neuter/Adopt companion animals and keep PAWS in mind. Call or write to us at 139 E. Vienna St., Anna, IL, 62906; ph: 618-833-DOGS (3647); pawspaws.org; and facebook.com/PAWSAnna.

PAWS For Reflection 01/25/2016

First, let’s do a quick rundown of the 2016 events we know so far.
March: Our annual Good Friday Fish Fry will be 3-25.
April thru May: Bedding plant sale at PAWS Place Adoption Center.
June: Annual “Dawg Daze of Summer” celebration at Alto Vineyards.
July 1, 2: Fourth of July pork butt sale at PAWS Place Adoption Center.
September 23: Begin our annual mum sale at PAWS Place Adoption Center.
October: Ouida’s fall fish fry fundraiser.
November 5: PAWS Annual Auction for Animals at Blue Sky Winery. So mark your new calendars now, and plan to join us on our journey to save these lives and build a facility we will all be so proud of.
Uh-oh. Here we are again, rapidly moving into traditional breeding season for dogs and cats. Then, in a couple of months, we will be swamped with requests to take dozens and dozens of unwanted puppies and kittens.
News flash, folks. This is preventable! Please spay or neuter your companion animals, and if homeless animals show up, spay or neuter them, too. Insist that everyone you know with companion animals has them spayed or neutered. Step up, get involved, help solve the problem.
Please. Visit PAWS Place Adoption Center to adopt your new best friend, shop at PAWS 2nd Chance Resale, support us however you can. We can only do this because you continue to want us to, and help us do it. We will keep up the good work as long as you do! Meanwhile, if you see a companion animal in need, in trouble, or suffering, please, please call someone before it’s too late for them. Call your local animal control office, the police, the Sheriff’s Dept., and let us know, too.

PAWS For Reflection 01/11/2016

WOW! Another new year, so very much to do. But, first, let us introduce ourselves again to those of you who may not know us or are just now receiving the Pub. We are Pets Are Worth Saving, Inc., a not-for-profit, 501(c)3 animal welfare organization that was incorporated in 1994, making this the 22nd year of our work. We care for and rehome unwanted and homeless, sometimes neglected and abused, dogs, cats, puppies, kittens, and, occasionally, horses. We have been blessed by the support of many, many of you for these many years. Without that support, we would be unable to continue our lifesaving work, because we are 100% funded by donations and our various fundraising efforts. We were most fortunate to be able to purchase a small building on a main thoroughfare in Anna, and create our no-kill facility, PAWS Place Adoption Center, which was licensed and opened in 2001. Over these past 15 years, we have taken in and rehomed over 5,000 dogs, cats, puppies, kittens, a number of horses, along with several rabbits. We actively support adoption from shelters, humane treatment for all living creatures, and spaying and neutering companion animals as the only truly acceptable means to manage pet overpopulation. In November, 2013, PAWS was also able to realize a long-standing goal by opening a resale store in Anna, PAWS 2nd Chance Resale. We continue to be overwhelmed by both the quality and quantity of donations to the store. You can visit our Facebook page to get an idea of the variety of items available for sale at our store. Nearly everything you can imagine has come through the store for sale. PAWS 2nd Chance Resale is becoming a viable funding source for our continued efforts to save lives We present our world to you each week in this article, keeping you apprised of issues of concern regarding companion animals, our upcoming events, our plans, our joys and our heartaches. We hope you will come see us at our adoption center and the store, we hope you like what you see, and we hope you will join our ever-growing supporter base. Meanwhile, if you see a companion animal in need, in trouble, or suffering, please, please call someone before it’s too late for them. PAWS For Reflection 01/18/2016

A sweet sentiment: When I am old... I shall wear Turquoise and soft gray sweatshirts... and a bandanna over my silver hair... and I shall spend my Social Security Checks on My Dogs...and sit in my house on my well-worn chair and listen to my dog's breathing.   I will sneak out in the middle of a warm Summer night and take my dogs for a run, if my old bones will allow... and when people come to call, I will smile and nod as I show them my dogs... and talk of them and about them... The ones so Beloved of the Past and the ones so Beloved of Today...   I still will work hard cleaning after them and mopping and feeding them and whispering their names in a soft, loving way. I will wear the gleaming sweat on my throat, like a jewel. And I will be an embarrassment to all who have not yet found the peace of being free to have dogs as your Best Friends...   These friends who always wait, at any hour, for your footfall... and eagerly jump to their feet out of a sound sleep, to greet you as if you are a God.   With warm eyes full of adoring love and hope that you will stay and hug their big, strong necks... and kiss their dear sweet heads... and whisper to them of your love and the beautiful pleasure of their very special company.   I look in the Mirror... and see I am getting old... this is the kind of person I am... and have always been. Loving dogs is easy, they are part of me, accept me for who I am, my dogs appreciate my presence in their lives...when I am old this will be important to me... you will understand when you are old... if you have dogs to love, too. Meanwhile, if you see a companion animal in need, in trouble, or suffering, please, please call someone before it’s too late for them. Paws For Reflection 12/28/2015

We hope that your Christmas was joyful and warm and full of love. A number of our babies found their new forever homes just before the holiday. We thank all those who chose to adopt their new family members, and wish them all a lifetime of fuzzy, loving fun.
Remember, our Meowy Christmas celebration at PAWS Place Adoption Center continues through this week. It’s in honor of our many adult cats who desperately want to snuggle with you this holiday season and forever. PAWS is offering the reduced adoption fee of $37.50 to approved adopters.
Super Sale at PAWS 2nd Chance Resale, too. All Christmas items must go, so you need to come see us right away. And have you seen the new Mona Lisa tees? Beautiful, fun, and our tribute to our precious, precious girl, who overcame so much to give us and all who meet her so much happiness.
We treasure each and every one of you who support us in so many, many ways. We have come a long way together, but we are not yet done. Please stay with us, and we will all take the next giant step to saving them all.
